Making Data Speak for London’s Children: Care Leaving

The LIIA data & intelligence team supports the Care Leaving priority though the creation and dissemination of various data products and through our support for the Transport for London Care Leavers Oyster Card discount scheme.

Current work

Care Leaver OC3 dashboard – Child Level Data Project

Our OC3 dashboard uses data from SSDA903 child looked after annual statutory return collected through our Child Level Data project to analyse information about care leavers aged 17 – 25, including whether or not the local authority was in touch, plus information about their activity status and accommodation.

This data is confidential and is available through the members’ area, which requires a login.

Transport for London Care Leavers Concession Scheme

LIIA’s data & insight team is proud to support Transport for London’s 18-25 Care Leaver Oyster photocard scheme, giving care leavers in London discounted travel on buses and trams. Our dashboard allows local authorities to track how many successful applications have been made by their care leavers, allowing them to ensure as many of their young people as possible are accessing the support available to them.

Upcoming Projects

The space below outlines some of our ongoing and upcoming projects.

Care to Career (C2C)

Care to Career (C2C) is an employment support programme, provided by Drive Forward Foundation (DFF), a London-based charity which supports care-experienced young people into sustained employment. The scheme provides young people with 1:1 support from Careers Specialists, professional mentoring, counselling and training & development opportunities.

Following a promising pilot evaluation of C2C by the Policy Institute at King’s College London, Youth Futures Fund (YFF) are funding a further randomised controlled trial (RCT) led by King’s College London to assess the impact of C2C on employment, education and training outcomes of care experienced young people. This will involve 10 London local authorities.

LIIA’s data & intelligence team are excited to support this RCT through the provision and analysis  of child-level data.
