Welcome to the Your Choice Framework
Background – the Your Choice story so far
The Your Choice Framework empowers young people to identify and achieve their goals and aspirations
Developed and launched in 2021 the Your Choice Framework has been delivered across 32 London Local Authorities in a 3-year Randomised Control Trial (RCT) funded by the Youth Endowment Fund (YEF).

More than 50 Clinical Leads have been trained to train the Your Choice Framework through a robust train-the-trainer programme
Over 300 practitioners have been upskilled to deliver the Your Choice framework based in a range of services, working with young people at risk of harm outside the home (ROTH)
A total of 1,684 children and young people (aged 11 to 18) have received the Your Choice framework helping them learn new skills and make safer choices
Findings from the Pan-London Randomised Control Trial
The London Young People Study highlighted real promise in improved psychological outcomes for children and young people (aged 11 to 18 years old). The findings from the pan London Randomised Control Trial (which compared outcomes for young people participating in Your Choice with those receiving Business As Usual) indicates that Your Choice can have a positive impact on young people’s psychological health and wellbeing. Specifically, Your Choice was shown to have:
A moderate impact on improving children’s self-reported:
- Emotional self-regulation
- Social connectedness
- How safe young people felt.
A small impact on reducing self-reported
- severe conduct problems
- hyperactivity
- emotional problems
- peer problems
- improving wellbeing
- prosocial identity
What Young People on the Your Choice Programme say:
“Working with [my practitioner] really opened my eyes. I see now that who you surround yourself with, makes an image of who you are” – Young person on the Your Choice programme
“Back then I was just very negative and pretty much depressed because there was nothing really good going on in my life. But now I can see the bright side of things and stuff and I can look forward to it” – Young person on the Your Choice programme
“To work in quite a different way that also was within the remit of the work that I generally do was fantastic and it did transform my working relationship with that young person. It strengthened it…I got to see [them] at times in quite a different environment, relaxed, interacting differently. I think [they] saw a different side of me at times as well“ – Your Choice Practitioner
What Your Choice Practitioners say:
“I think that’s one of the real strong points of the Your Choice programme. Those relationship building sessions aren’t just an add-on, I think they’re fundamental to making the Your Choice programme different to some of the interventions that they’ve had previously. […] And these young people, often who are already very disengaged from the system, they don’t trust adults, they certainly don’t trust professionals. So actually to have an adult come alongside them and say, ‘You’re important enough for me to actually just want to spend time with you and do something that is enjoyable, and get to know you.'” – Your Choice Practitioner
What the Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) Efficacy Report says:
“[Practitioners] will manage extremely high-risk cases, children with multiple complex needs. But because they have been upskilled, they are better able to engage with families for providing resources at an early age and at an early stage before they escalate to needing, probably, a [highly] intensive, high-cost placement” – YEF Efficacy Report, January 2026
In 2026 the Your Choice Framework training was awarded a quality standard recognised by the British Psychological Society (BPS), the UK’s leading professional body for psychology.

The practice framework – working the Your Choice way
The Your Choice Framework has 7 key features that complement and bolster your existing practice;
Integrates with existing best practice and systemic work – complementing the work practitioners are already doing with young people.
Evidence-led and informed by a range of psychological theories including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) principles – supporting and empowering young people – and practitioners – to recognise and respond to patterns in thoughts, feelings and behaviours and build effective coping strategies.
A child-centred, trauma informed practical framework – for services and practitioners working with young people – enabling a developmentally appropriate, empowering and tailored approach responsive to individual and current strengths and needs.
Activates and nurtures positive, pro-social networks, behaviours and identity development – working towards goals and aspirations that are meaningful to the young person and connecting them with positive influences in the community.
Clinically informed, formulation-led approach – supported by clinical supervision to embed training and weave in cognitive behavioural tools and techniques in a meaningful and responsive way.
Emphasises the importance of nurturing practitioners, young people and their networks to enable relational approach – encouraging practitioners to be creative, adaptive and playful in trying out new, meaningful and enjoyable activities to support engagement and behaviour change.
Culturally sensitive and responsive – designed to be accessible, explicitly address cultural barriers and keep individual cultural needs, aspirations and interests at the centre.
Three core aims of the Your Choice Framework are to:
Help young people focus on what matters to them and provide them with resources to achieve their goals.
Move beyond understanding why a child may behave in a certain way to providing practical tools and techniques that practitioners can use to help the child keep themselves safe.
Contribute to the evidence-base of what works in keeping children and young people safe, and make the case for further investment in this field of work.

Your Choice roles & responsibilities
There are 3 roles in the the Your Choice Framework delivery chain that ensure it can be embedded in practice and provide ongoing clinical supervision and guidance post training: These include: Your Choice Train the Trainer (London Innovation & Improvement Alliance – LiiA). The Your Choice Trainers (also the Clinical Supervisor) and Your Choice Coaches.

Become a Your Choice Trainer / Clinical Supervisor
In 2026 the Your Choice training was awarded a quality standard mark British Psychological Society (BPS), the UK’s leading professional body for psychology.
The BPS Quality Mark provides new and existing Your Choice Trainers / Clinical Supervisors the opportunity to deliver the Your Choice Framework training to this high quality standard.

The benefits of BPS certification:

The BPS Quality Mark provides an opportunity to meaningfully investment in the continuous professional development (CPD) of the workforce
New implementation protocols have been introduced, underpinned through a site licensing Partnership Agreement with the LiiA Your Choice team.
There are two routes to certification for both new and existing Your Choice Trainers:

Become a Your Choice Coach
